Language Training

Private Tuition (up to 3 people)


  • All lessons must be booked and paid for in full in blocks of 5 or 10 sessions before or at the beginning of the course. Payment can be made by cheque, cash or card.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

  • In circumstance where a student has failed to turn up to a lesson without informing the tutor, French Excel will charge the full fee for the cancelled lesson.
  • If a student needs to cancel a course of lessons after the course has started, no refund for the remaining lessons will be given.
  • If a student needs to cancel a lesson a minimum of 24 hours notice is required or the full fee will apply, this is irrespective of circumstances.
  • All cancellations with a minimum of 24 hours notice can be done by e-mail or by phone, however we ask our students to keep this to a minimum. If regular cancellations from the student occur your tutor will discuss with you your commitment to the course and if necessary may cancel the whole course.
  • French Excel has a no refund policy however if a course is cancelled by French Excel a full refund will be given for any remaining lessons.
  • If due to unforeseen events French Excel must cancel a lesson we will always give a minimum of 24 hours notice, if less than 24 hours notice is given, a credit will be issued and the lesson will be rescheduled.


  • Rescheduling must be kept to a minimum. Rescheduling a lesson must be done by phone or e-mail with a minimum of 24 hours notice. We ask students to collaborate with their tutor so that every effort can be made to reschedule the lesson as soon as possible. Any rescheduled lessons must fall within the same week as the originally planned lesson otherwise the cancellation policy will apply. This applies to both the student and the tutor.

Group Tuition (3+)


  • Group lessons are paid for by the term (10-12 weeks). Payment is due before the first lesson of each term.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

  • There is no refund given on group tuition once a term has started this is for any amount of lessons missed.
  • French Excel reserves the right to cancel a course if there are insufficient students. In this case the fee will be refunded.
  • Due to unforeseen events French Excel reserves the right to cancel a lesson. Should this occur we will always give the maximum amount of notice possible and will offer a free additional lesson as compensation.


  • We highly recommend that you check your commitments prior to enrolling for a term as there is no rescheduling for group lessons and no refund for any missed lessons.

French Clubs

  • Our Terms and Conditions for French Clubs will be sent out with the booking form.

General Information (applies to both private and group tuition)

  • “One off” lessons (1 to 3 hours) for specific purposes such as revision, studies, research, presentations etc is available and full support will be given however please note that we will not do your school homework for you.
  • Gift vouchers for language training are available.
  • If any members of a group (private or group tuition) do not attend a lesson the full fee for the lesson will still apply.
  • Although we provide students with various hand outs we highly recommend that all students purchase the specific textbook and/or CD specified by their tutor
  • For private tuition, the student must sign the Tuition Schedule after each session and the Tutor must countersign.
  • Any forms to be completed by the student must be returned to the tutor within a week of receiving them.
  • Examination success cannot be guaranteed.
  • The student must be responsible for their learning with support from the tutor.
  • French Excel reserves the right to refuse a student for future lessons or cancel a course due to unacceptable language and/or disruptive behaviour towards the tutor or other students during the lesson.
  • In order to make the learning experience enjoyable and provide full support to the student the tutor must be informed prior to the lessons of any disabilities, specific requirements or circumstances.
  • In case of an emergency the tutor must be informed in advance of any special medical requirements or emergency contacts.
  • French Excel shall be entitled to vary their rates from time to time on written notice to the customer.

Disclaimer: This applies for students taking lessons at the tutor’s house. Anyone bringing property on to the tutor premises does so at their own risk. The tutor cannot be held responsible for loss, damage or injury of any kind.

Terms and Conditions – Support Services

In these conditions: “Customer” the individual, firm, company or organisation for whom French Excel has agreed to provide the Services; “French Excel” means French Excel whose main office is at PO Box 690 East Grinstead RH18 5UY; “Contract” the Contract for the provision of Services which shall be governed by these conditions; “Services” means the Services to be provided by French Excel to or for the Customer; “Charge” means the Charge payable by the Customer to French Excel as notified by French Excel.

French Excel shall provide the Services to the Customer subject to these Conditions or such other conditions as may be agreed in writing between French Excel and the Customer.

Supply of the Services

  • French Excel’s normal hours are 09.00 – 17.30 Monday to Friday. Where French Excel is required to provide Services outside these hours French Excel shall be entitled to Charge for its Services at a higher rate, notified to the Customer in writing. Outside normal hours, the Customer may reach a French Excel consultant by telephone, fax or email. French Excel will respond to all messages left by the Customer as soon as possible.
  • The Service permits the Customer to request from French Excel any information in relation to any personal needs or desires of the Customer (including events, activities, venues, goods and Services). French Excel reserves the right to refuse to supply Services if, in the opinion of French Excel, the Services are to be used by the Customer for any immoral or unlawful purpose. French Excel’s information will be based upon the specific criteria provided to French Excel by the Customer.
  • French Excel shall not be liable to the Customer in the event that a request made of French Excel is not capable of fulfillment by them.
  • French Excel shall, within an agreed period of time, use all its reasonable endeavours to provide information in response to the Customers requests. If French Excel is unable to deal with any requests, it will inform the Customer as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Where required, French Excel will use all reasonable endeavours to source suitable Service professionals to meet a Customer's request. French Excel will use its best endeavours to ensure that all companies referred by French Excel are reputable offering quality and value to their customers.
  • French Excel uses all reasonable endeavours to monitor the goods and/or Services provided by supplier partners but French Excel cannot accept responsibility for any loss, liability or cost incurred by a Customer as a result of any acts or omissions of supplier partners nor can French Excel guarantee the accuracy of information supplied to Customers by supplier partners.
  • French Excel will not be liable under this agreement for any loss or damage caused by us or our employees or agents in circumstances where;
  • there is no breach of a legal duty of care owed to you by French Excel or by our employees or agents;
  • such loss or damage is not a reasonably foreseeable result of any such breach;
  • any increase in loss or damage resulting from the breach by you of any term of this agreement.
  • In the event that French Excel does not have a supplier on its database to carry out a requested job or task, French Excel will take reasonable steps to find another Service professional and advise the Customer accordingly.
  • French Excel is not an authorised travel agent or tour operator and only acts as an introductory agent on behalf of a Customer and travel services provider. Any travel Services including travel tickets and package holidays will be subject to the terms and conditions of the travel or holiday operator.
  • French Excel may obtain tickets for events either directly or through ticket agents. The Customer will be purchasing tickets which will include a service charge imposed by French Excel reflecting the time it took to locate and purchase the tickets on behalf of the Customer.
  • All ticket sales are final and no refunds or cancellations can be issued after reservation or purchase of tickets.
  • In the event of a show being cancelled by the venue/artist/promoter, only the return of the face value of the tickets can be guaranteed. Postage fees, service charges and additional fees that may have applied are non refundable.
  • French Excel is not responsible for any failure to get tickets to you in time.
  • French Excel shall not be liable if any document procured by us for you (e.g. theatre ticket) is subsequently found not to be genuine or another party will not accept it (e.g. a theatre). However, we shall use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that such documentation is genuine and bona fide.

Customer Responsibilities

  • The Customer must agree to provide French Excel with true, accurate current and complete information and to notify French Excel of any changes in the information provided when appropriate, and not to impersonate any other person or entity or use a false name.
  • Services provided by French Excel are provided expressly for the Customers and the Customers shall not use the Services for any improper, immoral, unlawful or any other purpose other than that for which the Customer informs French Excel at the time of the initial request.
  • The Customer shall immediately inform French Excel of the identity of any third party with whom the Customer enters into a Contract or arrangement for sale of goods or supply of Services which result in the provision of Services by French Excel and French Excel shall be entitled to decline to provide such Services to such party without providing any reason.
  • If the Customer should request that French Excel use the Customers credit card and/or other credit facilities for the purpose of rendering Services, the Customer shall, promptly and upon request, provide written confirmation of its authorisation for French Excel to use any such credit facility. The Customer acknowledges and agrees that French Excel shall have no liability or be responsible in any way whatsoever in respect of the use of the Customers credit card and/or other credit facilities provided that French Excel acts in accordance with the instructions issued by the Customer in relation thereto.
  • The Customer is responsible for providing the correct information required for the purpose of booking, ordering or purchasing products or Services and that the Payment Card the Customer uses is their own and that there are sufficient funds to cover the cost of the product or Service.
  • The Customer shall not be entitled to cancel any Services requested where the sale has already begun, unless otherwise agreed by the Supplier.

Requests and Cancellations

  • All requests made by the Customer must be in writing and sent by email, first class post or by fax transmission.
  • Service requests shall deem to have been formally received when acknowledged as such by French Excel.
  • If you wish to cancel a request, you must notify French Excel in writing, either by email, fax transmission or by first class post to the office address, as soon as is practicably possible.
  • You have a right to cancel a request within one week of the date required, except where French Excel have performed all or part of the Services requested or a supplier has been engaged by us on your behalf.
  • Where French Excel has already commenced work, and the Customer wishes to cancel, the Customer will not be entitled to any refund and will be liable for payment for all work that has been carried out.
  • A Customer may change the commencement date of French Excel’s Services without any penalty by giving seven working days notice, prior to original commencement date, in writing.
  • Without prejudice to any other accrued rights and remedies available, French Excel shall have the right to terminate the Contract for the provision of all or any of the Services forthwith upon written notice if:
  • The Customer commits a serious breach of these conditions such as non-payment, or, in the case of a breach capable of remedy, fails to remedy such breach within 7 days written notice from French Excel to so remedy; or
  • The Customer goes bankrupt or turns insolvent or makes voluntary arrangement with any of its creditors or has an order made against any of its effects or property.
  • On termination for any reason, the Customer shall immediately make payment to French Excel of all and any sums outstanding and owing to French Excel under these conditions (including any outstanding balance) and French Excel shall provide information and suggestions in response to all outstanding requests made by the Customer prior to termination.
  • French Excel reserves the right to cancel this agreement at least seven working days before the intended date of performance of the Services, without giving reasons, or we shall use reasonable endeavours to notify you of any such cancellation as soon as reasonably practicable to do so.

Charges and Payments

  • Subject to any special terms agreed, the Customer shall pay French Excel the Charge and any additional sums agreed between French Excel and the Customer for the provision of the Services.
  • French Excel shall be entitled to invoice the Customer immediately upon receipt of written acceptance of a service quotation or at other times agreed with the Customer. French Excel shall also be entitled to require payment prior to performance of services offered.
  • The charges and any additional sums due shall be paid by the Customer (without any set off, counterclaim or other deduction) in advance unless previously agreed by French Excel in writing whereby payment can be made within seven days of French Excel’s invoice date
  • The Charges levied by French Excel will be by a quote in writing. No variation to the Charges will be binding unless agreed in writing by French Excel.
  • French Excel will charge the Customer for reasonable travel time and expenses. French Excel will agree in writing with the Customer that these Charges will be levied prior to commencement of the work.
  • Payments can be made by cash, cheque, or credit/debit card.
  • French Excel may make a search in relation to your financial status with a credit reference agency, which will keep a record of that search and will share that information with other businesses.


  • French Excel warrants to the Customer that it shall use all of its reasonable endeavours to provide the Services using reasonable care and skill and, as far as reasonably possible, in accordance with the Customers requests and instructions. Where French Excel supply the Customer with any goods or Services supplied by a third party, French Excel does not give any warranty, guarantee, representation or other terms as to the quality, fitness for purpose or otherwise of the goods or services and the Customer shall be required to seek compensation for any loss or damage suffered from such third party direct. For the avoidance of doubt French Excel does not and will not provide any representations or recommendations in relation to any of the information comprised within the services and the Customer is deemed to be responsible for, and shall use its own skill and judgment as to the quality, value and suitability of any such information and in relation to deciding whether to enter into any Contract with any third party for the supply of Services or sale of goods.
  • French Excel shall have no liability to the Customer for any loss, damage, costs, expenses or other claims for compensation arising from requests or instructions supplied by the Customer which are incomplete, incorrect or inaccurate or arising from their late arrival or non arrival, or any other fault of the Customer.
  • French Excel shall not be liable or be deemed to be in breach of the Contract by reason of any delay in performing, or any failure of French Excel’s obligations in relation to the services, if the delay or failure was due to any cause beyond French Excel’s reasonable control.
  • Subject to the provisions of these terms and conditions, French Excel’s maximum liability to the Customer for breach of any of its obligations hereunder shall be limited to the value of the charge (provided that the charge has at such time been paid by the Customer in full). In no event shall the total aggregate liability for French Excel exceed the amounts paid by Customer of the products and Services.
  • The Customer agrees that any Contract entered into by the Customer with any of the Suppliers is an independent Contract. French Excel hereby disclaims any and all liability for any act or omission of any Supplier or any loss incurred by the Customer as a result of any act or omission of a Supplier whether or not arranged through French Excel.
  • Neither party to this agreement shall be responsible to the other party for any delay in performance or non-performance due to a force majeure event.

Disclosure of Information

  • All information received by French Excel in relation to the Customer shall remain confidential and, except as maybe required by law, French Excel shall not, without the Customer’s prior written consent, disclose or divulge to any third party any information of any nature whatsoever in relation to the Customer.
  • Unless French Excel receives notice from the Customer to the contrary, French Excel may from time to time provide the Customer with information in relation to the Services that French Excel considers maybe of interest to the Customer.
  • French Excel shall not be responsible for the security of communications sent to the Customer or others in relation to tasks and services by email or fax. Please let us know if, at any stage, the Customer wishes not to use email or fax for communications.
  • Under the Data Protection Act 1984 the Customer shall be entitled upon written request to view any personal records or information held by French Excel relating to the Customer. French Excel shall be entitled to Charge an administrative fee for this Service.


  • French Excel endeavours to provide a high quality Service to the Customer in carrying out tasks. If the Customer is unhappy at any time about how French Excel performs tasks for the Customer, please contact the main office address. French Excel would seek to investigate any such complaint as soon as is reasonably practicable and report back to the Customer. This does not affect your statutory rights.
  • If the Customer has a complaint concerning the conduct, goods or services of a supplier or other third party, the Customer should write directly to the supplier and send a copy of the complaint to French Excel to assist us in assessing, for future use, the adequacy of a supplier as a provider of the relevant Services.


  • These conditions (together with any other terms and conditions agreed in writing between French Excel and the Customers) constitute the entire agreement between the parties, and may not be varied except on notice from French Excel. All other terms and conditions express or implied by a statute or otherwise are excluded to the fullest extents permitted by Law.
  • Any notice required or permitted to be given by either party to the other under these conditions shall be in writing addressed to the other party at its registered office or principal place of business. Any notice may be sent by first class post, email or fax transmission and notice shall be deemed to have been served on the expiry of 48 hours in the case of post or at the time of transmission in the case of fax or email transmission.
  • If any provision of these conditions is held by any competent authority to be invalid or unenforceable in whole or in parts, the validity of the other provisions of these conditions will still stand.
  • These conditions and the Contract to which they relate shall be governed and construed in accordance with English Law and the parties shall submit to the exclusivity jurisdiction of the English Courts.

Terms and Conditions – Translations

In submitting a text for translation, the Customer agrees to accept that all goods and services are provided by French Excel subject to the following Terms and Conditions:

  • The Customer shall clearly indicate the intended use of the translation. The Customer is required to specify whether it is required for information or for eventual publication.
  • Unless requested in writing by the Customer, a translation is made for information and understanding only, and French Excel undertake to supply such translation of a high enough standard for that purpose.
  • French Excel undertakes to keep all documents regarding the Customers business and products strictly confidential. This confidentiality shall be maintained by French Excel and its suppliers and any sub-contracted employee’s. Nevertheless French Excel cannot be held liable for violation of professional secrecy by its suppliers if it can prove that French Excel was not able to prevent such violation.
  • Whilst every attempt is made to ensure that the translation is as accurate as possible, no guarantee is given in that regard, and French Excel shall not be held liable for any consequential loss or damage caused by any inaccuracy or difference of interpretation. In any event, liability of French Excel shall in no case exceed the value of the invoice for the cost of the services.
  • Any disputes concerning the quality or delivery time of the work ordered can only be accepted in writing within 14 days from the date of delivery of the order. After the 14 day period, no claim whatsoever will be accepted by French Excel. Claims do not under any circumstances exempt the customer from its obligation to pay for the translation supplied.
  • Delivery times stated by French Excel are estimates which the company will use its best endeavors to achieve, however French Excel will not be liable in the event of delivery being delayed. Delay shall in no circumstances amount to or be deemed to be a breach of contract; neither shall the Customer be entitled to treat the contract as invalid by reason of the delay.
  • All quotations are given subject to confirmation by French Excel upon receipt of the Customer’s order and no contract shall be concluded until such confirmation is given.
  • Any written quotation for work will remain valid for 30 days from the date originally submitted. French Excel will not be bound by any oral quotation or acceptance of it.
  • French Excel charge on a price per word basis, however a minimum price will apply for any work order with less than 200 words.
  • In the event of a Customer canceling a translation order which has been commenced by French Excel, the Customer shall pay 50% of the total cost of the translation contract.
  • In the event that significant modifications to the translation order are made by the customer after conclusion of the contract, French Excel will charge a fee for the additional work and may change the delivery time.
  • Payment terms are to be agreed in advance. Subject to approval, credit accounts are due for payment within 28 days of the Invoice date and must be paid in the currency stated on the invoice. In all other cases payment can be made by cheque, cash, credit card or bank transfer.
  • The copyright of any translation is the property of French Excel and will not be deemed to have passed on to the Customer until full payment for the translation has been received.
  • All contractual relationships between the Customer and French Excel shall be personal to the Customer and shall be governed by UK Law.
  • The Company shall not be liable for any failure in the performance of any obligations under this contract caused by factors outside its control.

Privacy Policy and Copyright

Data Protection

  • We are committed to protecting your privacy. We will only use the information that we collect about you lawfully (in accordance with the Data Protection legislation and regulations).
  • French Excel guarantees that all source material received as well as all client details are kept strictly confidential.
  • All financial information including credit card data will be destroyed by French Excel as soon as payment has been authorised and the transaction is completed.

  • Information, documents, drawings and illustrations published by French Excel are the property of French Excel. Copyright and IP rights in the content of French Excel’s website belong to French Excel.
